What To Pack For Your Hawaiian Vacation

by guest on Jun.29, 2010, under Blog

Hawaiian Vacations are generally great fun and suitable for all the family. Nobody will be bored, and when deciding where to go for your next vacation, Hawaii should be high on your list. Anybody that goes on vacation to Hawaii always comes back with a smile and promising themselves another trip there. There are many reasons for visiting Hawaii: a holiday during a school break, a wedding for which Hawaii is famed, or just to get away from it all for a while. Whatever your reason, there is so much to do there that it is often difficult to know what to pack, particularly if this is your first trip to the archipelago. Here are a few tips.

Clothes: Don’t overdo the shorts, T-shirts and sun-tops. It can sometimes be cool or wet in Hawaii, so take some pants and a few shirts to cover your arms. A warm coat would be wise - you might be glad of it depending on the time of year, and take some socks. You will definitely need beachwear and towels, but decide in advance what sports equipment you will need that you can’t hire - and don’t forget the sunscreen!

Activities: Even though you will be busy seeing the sights and attractions in Hawaii, you should also pack some activities that you can do in case you have to stay inside. If you should have a rainy day, you might decide to stay in bed and just read a book. For the kids taking games and books along is important in case you take a long drive somewhere or you want to just relax.

Camera: this is a must! You don’t go all the way to Hawaii without a camera. The islands have a lot of natural beauty to offer, and a video camera will also be useful to record all these volcanoes, fabulous waterfalls and of course the family. You can’t forget them! Make sure to have some extra batteries or a charger, and an empty memory card for your camera. Unless yours needs a film spool or video cassette!

Travelers Checks: Instead of taking a lot of spending money with you, it’s always safer to use travelers checks. You should organize this prior to leaving for your vacation. This also allows you be sure you won’t spend too much by just taking the amount that you budget for your trip.

Fishing: Hawaii consists of 19 islands and atolls, every one of them teaming with fish and other marine life. If there is one thing it can offer you it is plenty fishing (big fish and small fish) and plenty reef diving. You can hire fishing and diving equipment there, but most people prefer their own, so make sure that you pack your rods and other equipment, and any diving equipment you will need such as your scuba gear and wet suit, or masks and snorkels.

There will obviously be other things that people will need during their Hawaii vacations, and most people will make a list so that they are less liable to forget important items when packing. Insect repellant and a small first aid kit for example, and don’t forget your tickets and brochures, or your passport if you need one. Otherwise, just relax, enjoy the trip there and have a fabulous time in Hawaii. And don’t forget the toothbrush!

Pay as you go mobile phones

by guest on Oct.28, 2009, under Blog

Working in a cell phone store, I get quite a few people who wander into the store, tell me how much they hate the concept of cell phones, and wander right back out. I can’t help but wonder why they felt the need to even enter the store if that was their opinion, but that’s neither here nor there.

Just the other day, an older lady came into the store, full of questions. She will be taking a road trip through several states in the upcoming summer and she said that her family wants her to have a cell phone. She doesn’t want a mobile phone, other than just for that trip. While all of the mobile phone carriers don’t have a plan that allows customers to just have a phone for a few weeks. But, pay as you go mobile phones do allow for that luxury.

The appealing nature of pay as you go mobile phones is the fact that you can activate it and pay only what you want, whenever you have the need. This woman may end up spending $100 up front for a phone and as many minutes as she feels she needs, but once that is paid, she’ll only have to purchase minutes in the future. That’s the cheap part. Let’s say that she only takes two trips each year that she feels that she would need to have the security of being able to make phone calls.

Pay as you go mobile phones would be ideal for her, or anyone else like her. In fact, if she doesn’t use the minutes that she purchases on her first trip, they don’t expire. She just may find that she doesn’t need to purchase more minutes again for her next trip.

Every single week, I hear someone telling me about how making the choice to purchase a pay as you go mobile phone has helped them. Perhaps their car broke down in the middle of nowhere or they were lost while driving to a particular destination. Back in the good ol’ days, you could trust a passerby when you had a flat tire. Nowadays, you just can’t have that same level of trust. I’d rather sit in my car and make a phone call, waiting for someone to arrive to assist me.

If you have a pay as you go mobile phone, that ability is yours. Of course, many people own cell phones that they use daily and pay for monthly. Perhaps they have a need for daily cell phone usage. But, for people like this particular woman who doesn’t want the hassle of having to pay a monthly payment, getting a pay as you go mobile phone just may be one of the best decisions she can make. I’m sure her family will be absolutely thrilled.
