For people who prefer not to cook, there is a wide variety of premade foods to choose from: frozen dinners stews, and chilies; foods of all kinds for quick and easy sandwiches like vegan dogs, bacons, and soy ; and delicious desserts including soy yogurts. The selection is growing each year; and a greater number of grocery stores are beginning to carry the same goods that used to be found only in fringe stores. You may even find that your local health food store has its own deli counter, stocked with prepared foods.
When you initially discover the reality of modern animal agriculture, not using all items from industrial farms might seem too big a thing to change. But don’t be worried-just take little steps. For example, you may eliminate meat from certain meals or on a given day. As you get used to consuming less meat and find alternatives you enjoy, it may become easier to eliminate meat altogether. Ultimately, living with compassion implies striving to increase the good we do, not adhering a set of rules or attempting to fit a specific label. From consuming less meat to becoming vegan (cuisiner sans viande ), our actions are only a way to an end: reduce suffering. Because of this, we believe the consequences of our actions are the bottom line.
Most research show that vegetarians face about 30 percent lower risk of death from high blood pressure than do those who eat meat. The benefit toward cancer risk are less consistent, but some research shows cancer related deaths are at least 40 percent lessened among vegans, while others are very similar. Obviously, several of the benefits associated to vegetarian eating may be similar to other health choices: as a group, vegetarians often exercise, don’t use tobacco and avoid alcohol.
Vegans do not consume or use eggs even though doing so would not destroy the animal. Part of the reason is a belief in the absolute right of animals to exist freely without human oppression, but also because many commercially raised egg-laying chickens are killed when their health degrades with age – this is even the event with non-industrial animals.
Most people believe that removing all animal products will greatly narrow their menus. Over time, you will also find that it’s possible to follow almost any recipe by substituting elements. Some people shift into vegetarianism by looking for new foods that taste a bit like livestock products, while some jump straight in. Vegetarians often comment that the large majority of food eaten by people is vegan anyway. If you look at a typical meal, most of it is usually vegetable based.
